Oo ps?

Kinja'd!!!

Online auction for a local estate sale, found a lot of “3 metal boxes”. I was interested in 2 of them in the picture, an old toolbox and a larger ammo box. I had no plan for the green suitcase looking thing but figured I’d find a use for it. Won the bid, go to pick it up and this is what I’ve got. A Coleman 413D, made between 1950 and 1953.

T his is actually quite convenient, as I was planning on purchasing a camp stove come spring.

I ’ll likely be converting it to propane.

White gas or death! But seriously, propane is so much easier. No muss, no fuss, and no pumping.

I bought one at a thrift store recently just because I like the color... not that old tho, probably 70s.

If you convert it to propane you will spend as much on the fittings as you would just buying a new propane stove. The elbow that connects to a bottle is $20 or so.

You would still need the valve, tubing and propane burners. I would just lube it up and use it with white gas.

This and a propane canister is literally all  you need.

I picked one of these up a couple of years back at a yard sale for $5. I didn’t get it for camping as much as for storm preparation. W e live on the east coast a nd have a c t u a l l y gone without power for extended periods in the past when Atlantic storms hit our area . B e c a u s e o f t h a t, f i n d i n g c o n v e n i e n t w a y s o f cooking food always b e c a m e one of the most difficult p r o b l e m s t o o v e r c o m e . That is why I appreciate that ours runs on white gas. Propane bottles are definitely more convenient, but good luck finding them when the lights go out over half the city. A g allon of white gas lasts way longer t h a n a couple of propane bottles , and you c a n e v e n r u n i t o n g a s o l i n e i n a pinch.

I certainly hope to be able to run it  on white gas, but I think it's been stored outside for quite some time and if it doesn't work for some reason I'm not sure I want to spend the time troubleshooting and replacing seals.
